Hand Hygiene: Monitoring the Accession of Health Professionals in a Public Institution of the State Network of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract
One of the main challenges faced by the Hospital Infection Control Service refers to the monitoring of health professionals on the Accession to the Hand Hygiene. This study seeks to know and to assess the issue that involves multidisciplinary health team regarding the prevention of nosocomial infections in hospitals, based on studies that show us that many of the infections are preventable with the simple act of washing hands. This work is original proposal conducting a literature review, complemented by field research. This is a case study, descriptive and quantitative character, which was carried out at the adult intensive care, the five-week period, which were observed ninety ICU health professionals, for a period of five weeks each by 1:30 a.m. section in several shifts - day always at the beginning of each shift / duty - in two stages: before and after patient contact. These data are tabulated and further analysis of these, using check sheets and validated questionnaires by WHO OPA.
