CHARACTERISTICS OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE OF THE ISLAND ENTITIES IN VIETNAM

Abstract

In the Vietnamese mind, the ocean is not only a place of existence but also an original space. Living and exploiting the sea and islands of the Vietnamese have existed since the Hung King. Language of place names of the islands is an important evidence of Vietnamese sovereignty over islands. The article studies characteristics of type name, characteristics of the names, the positivism value of the names, characteristics of Vietnamese culture through the names of islands in Vietnam.

The language for naming island entities is primarily one syllable and emphasizes pure Vietnamese. The mind of the land in the names of animals, objects is in close relationship with the Vietnamese. That shows that the island entities are closely related to the spiritual life of the Vietnamese.
